I’ve made a great discovery while exploring new ways to everyday cosplay, bound and dapper mash-up my cosplays- the t-shirt dress.
This type of dress is a great pick for The Brick on your cosplay team. For details on The Brick and building any cosplay or bound, please download this checklist.
Besides being super comfy, the t-shirt dress comes in an endless variety of colors, prints and cuts. There are bodycon dresses, skaters and swing dresses. Obviously, with all the dapper mash-ups that I do, the swing dress is my go-to.
Here are some pics of various bounds that I’ve done with a t-shirt dress. Links to buy these are below. All links are size-inclusive. I’m wearing a 2xl or a 3xl in these pictures. I wear a size 20 usually. Please use the vendor-specific size charts, which you can find in the pictures section on the left-hand side of each item’s page.
For our latest outfit of the day, we have a rockabilly take on Hufflepuffs and Slytherins.
We took these latest outfits out for a day at Hogsmeade Village during the holiday celebration at Universal Studios Hollywood.
This is a simple stylized cosplay that you can wear everyday if you want. I wear the pieces separately depending on where I’m headed. Ladies, you can add a bandana to your hair-do to add to the look.
This is really an easy cosplay to do. If you want to get started cosplaying, I always say that a good mash-up or stylized cosplay is a great way to get going.
Please send us your own ideas for stylized cosplays. We love to hear from you.
For part 2 of our Hogwarts Bound outfits of the day, we went in two different gender directions, but stayed in the dapper bound family for each look. All photos taken by Justin Davidson Photography. Book him here. You’ll be glad you did!
My dress is from CowCow. I really love this site. They have several different cuts and any kind of print you can imagine. You pick the print and the cut, and they make the dress for you. I’m wearing a size 3XL in the Cap Sleeve Front Wrap Midi Dress in Yellow Stars Print. Click on the link above to order your own.
This dress is so comfortable and versatile. I wear it to work, to Universal and out all the time. I love it! The print is perfect for a Hufflepuff like me or really any witch, to be honest. Regardless of your House.

For our first fashion alert of the year, I am putting the spotlight on CowCow.
As you know, I’m a huge fan of CowCow. I discovered a cute AF dino dress last year and cannot stop wearing it. I paid 20 bucks for it and got it on Prime. I need to spread that fashion goodness around, I’m thinkin!
Get this exact dress from Amazon here. I’m wearing a 3XL. It is true-to-size. I’ve washed it several times, and the print is still bright and colorful.
The cropped tee is available here. The Star Lord jacket is available here.
CowCow has a huge selection on Amazon that is Prime available. Click on these links to get some great deals on their dresses! Some lower than $20!
No, not THAT one! This is a story about a tube of lipstick and how it is a connection to the happiest and most influential time in my childhood.
When I was a girl, I was fortunate enough to have Doris Fulford as my Grandmother. Doris wore Revlon’s Fire and Ice lipstick exclusively. Click here to get your own tube on Amazon!
Photo: Vintage Ad by Revlon
As you can see from the picture, Fire and Ice is a fantastic red lipstick that has been a Revlon staple since the 50s. Everyone should have a go-to red lipstick. Doris taught me that.
I got to borrow her lipstick and compact. When we were at home only, of course. I mean, a little girl wearing a red lip out in public “just wouldn’t do”. I felt pretty. I felt glamourous, just like her.
Doris had beautiful framed, top-clasp handbags all with matching shoes, which I would put on my tiny feet and shuffle around the house. Doris had hankerchiefs and hats. Doris wore gloves to church on Sundays. Doris had a group of friends with names like, “Madge” (her best friend’s actual name, by the way). They went to church, played bridge and went to the beauty shop together.
I drank all this in like a sponge. Just being around these ladies made me feel so glamourous! I was fussed over, but ignored just enough that I could employ my Dian Fosseyesque skills and observe and study. The Southern lady in her natural habitat…OBSERVE!
I got to wear dresses and spend time with them at the beauty shop. I was indulged and allowed to sit under one of those industrial size hair dryers that probably picked up signals from Sputnik. Cool air, of course, with a “Redbook” magazine to flip through with a very serious expression on my face. I mean, “Redbook” was serious business. So glamourous!
Which brings me back to the tube of lipstick. I carry it with me everywhere. Whether I go with a red lip that day or not. It reminds me of Doris, the bags with matching shoes, large hairdryers and the glamourousness it all entailed.
We all lost Doris in the early 80s, unfortunately. The example she set, however, was not lost. I grew up and fashion and beauty remained a huge part of my life. My kid and I started cosplaying, and then started a nerd fashion blog together.
I’d like to think that Doris would be proud of me and what I’ve accomplished. I couldn’t have done it without her.
For our first post of the year, we present our new Hogwarts Bound outfits of the day!
As you can see, these outfits are unisex. They can be as feminine or as masculine as you want. They can both be worn everyday. This is actually one of my favorite work outfits right now.
Photos taken by the amazing Justin Davidson Photography. Please book him here.
Ties from Spirit Halloween. Vests from Goodwill. Button-downs from Amazon. My skirt is also from Amazon. Scout’s coat is actually my Deathly Hallows coat from Hot Topic. I’m wearing a size 3XL and wear a size 20 for reference. My shoes are a DIY that I will show you how in a separate post. Wands and my bag from Universal Studios as was the location for the shoot.
A special shout-out to the Cast Members at Universal for being so accomodating for all of us bloggers and cosplayers shooting at the park!
A couple of weeks ago, the kiddo and I were lucky enough to attend our first Dapper Day at Disneyland!

Dapper Day is something I’ve always wanted to attend, but just never had the opportunity to do so.
A little background on Dapper Day. Two times a year at Disneyland, WDW and Disneyland Paris, Disney hosts a Dapper Day event. This event has an Expo, where you can purchase dresses, shoes, gloves, sunglasses, hats, bowling shirts, parasols, etc. and then it is off to the parks to enjoy your day in your dapper finery. Visit their website here for more information.
Here are some wonderful pictures from our Dapper Day. If you got a chance to attend, what were your thoughts? Please comment and let us know. We love to hear from you!
We decided this is the first of many Dapper Days to come for us. We were super inspired. As a matter of fact, we are going to focus on more dapper inspired mash-ups with our cosplay and bounding for everyday in the coming year on our blog. So stay tuned for that!
My dress is from The Disney Dress Shop. I’m wearing a 3xl, but it is a little big on me. I wear a size 18/20 for reference. Bolero from Torrid. My fascinator is from Amazon. My shoes are from Skechers.
Scout’s bow tie is from Amazon. His vest is from Goodwill. Newsboy cap from Target.
Happy Shopping and hope to see you at the next Dapper Day Expo!
Today’s outfit of the day isn’t so much an outfit as a “look”. The kiddo and I recently became obsessed with “Riverdale”. It is the best described as “Twin Peaks” meets “90210”. The crazy has been turned up to 11 on this show in the best possible way.
More than the crazy plot twists, however, are the fashions! The fashions on this show are amazing! I have become obsessed with Veronica’s wardrobe.
Both Photos: Berlanti Productions
I recently purchased the Veronica Lodge cape from Hot Topic. The cape or cloak is fully lined with Veronica’s name and includes a hood. The cloak comes in both juniors and plus sizes.
To get that Veronica look, take a swing dress in a darker color and pair it with a skinny belt. Pair it with some kitten heels and a vintage bag. Accessorize with pearls.
Complete the look with the cloak, and you have instant glam worthy of any Riverdale Vixen!
