Holiday Break

As we enter the holiday break, I wanted to say thank you all for your continued support these last nine years!

This year presented me with a lot of challenges, but I got a dream job a few months ago, so things in life have improved a lot! I know I’ve posted OOTDs almost exclusively this year so I could concentrate on getting settled into that aforementioned dream job, but next year, I’ll be bringing some more variety of content.

Speaking of next year, please join me celebrating the tenth year of this site! 10 years?! I’m super touched and moved by your continued support, and I thank you with all my heart!

I began this blog to encourage and inspire you to enjoy your style, whether it be nerdy, gothy or sparkly; regardless of size, age or budget restrictions.

I will continue to do so with OOTDs with shopping links, articles with tips and tricks, and inspiration to wear the dress, buy the piece you’ve always wanted to try, take that selfie and express your personality through style.

Because style turns you into a walking, talking work of art and self-expression, and you live your life in it.

So, please join me for 10 more years of fun!

I love all of you, and thank you again.

Welcome to the New and Improved Site!

When I originally started this site back in 2016, my son and I were pretty immersed in the cosplay/con world. We formed a cosplay team, 9 O’Clock Bedtime Cosplay. The name came from a rude ex-boyfriend that despite traveling with us (on my dime), refused to head back to the hotel for the kiddos bedtime; but to be honest, how else are you going to date someone else at the same time if you don’t shuffle the girlfriend and her kid off to the hotel?! We also started this site, named raisingaheronotavillain.com. A mouth-full, but accurate.

The lapse in my romantic judgment aside, the kiddo and I had an amazing time, but time does go on as you know. Before I knew it, I had a middle-schooler that didn’t want to cosplay with his mom anymore (shocking, I know). So, I kept going with the site under a new name, InPlainSight.style. The idea being that rather than non-stop, screen-accurate cosplaying, I would begin to incorporate my style and nerdiness into my everyday wardrobe.

Over time, friends and fellow cosplayers started encouraging me to publish a guide to help others learn how to do the same. As the site’s popularity grew, so did the demand for a book. So, I decided to combine the most-useful articles, put them in one place into a workbook-type format.  “In Plain Sight: Using Everyday Cosplay to Express Your Inner Superhero”, offers readers a step-by-step guide to getting started with Cosplay, the various types and styles of Cosplay, how to create everyday looks, and the world of Bounding. The book includes shopping guides, sources, convention pack lists, Con pack lists and more.

As time passed, my style grew to include more of goth styles I love, as well as sparkly pink and kawaii clothes, mode-styles and J-Fashion, so I rebranded to “NerdySparkleGoth.com”.

Please take a look around, click on the links to shop around and drop a comment if you’d like.  All are welcome here, regardless of size, age and/or identity.  Remember, clothes do not have a gender, so you can wear anything and everything you want!  Let me help you find those pieces to look and feel your most confident self!

Thank you so much for your continuing support and encouragement! It means so very much to me. Don’t forget to drop me a comment or an email with what you like/don’t like on this site, as well as what you aren’t seeing, but would like to see.

xoxo

Introducing In Plain Sight Styling!

I’ve been out of commission for pretty much the entire month of November (the kid and I both got knocked down with a nasty flu), so I am launching this a little late, but better late than never!

Live in the shop now is my new styling service!

I’ve had a lot of requests for personal shopping/styling over the years, and I decided to pull the trigger on offering a completely online service. That way anyone can benefit from it, not just people here in LA.

First step will be to complete a small questionnaire like this:

This will be in Word format so you can complete and email to me. No need to print or scan anything.

Then I will create a head-to-toe look, including shoes, jewelry and accessories and send you a style sheet like this:

I will send it both as a jpg and pdf. The pdf will be fully clickable and shoppable. Each look is $25. I checked other services that are similar and they run between 50 and 100 a look, so I am offering a great discount on the work (I know, times are tough all over, believe me!)

I hope that this will help some of you dip a toe into exploring your style. I also hope that this can help get you Insta-ready for your next park visit (any park, not just Disney). Speaking of which, I will consult the particular park/event you are going to for any dress code rules and will follow them so you don’t need to worry about compliance on those.

Click here to go directly to the service ordering page!

Podcast About the “In Plain Sight” Book

I had the opportunity last month to do the “A Lott of Help” podcast with James Lott, Jr. on I Heart Radio. I’ve attached it here to you can give it a watch/listen.

We had a great conversation about being a nerd during this pandemic, cosplay, bounding and everyday cosplay. We also talked more in depth about the book, “In Plain Sight” and how it can help both beginner and experienced cosplayers build great looks.

I hope that you can give it a watch and find it helpful/inspirational.
