Ashley Eckstein’s New Book

At last month’s SDCC, we attended the Her Universe Fashion Show, as always.  The goody bags at that show are always amazing!  This year was no different.  We all got a free copy of Her Universe founder, Ashley Eckstein’s, new book, “It’s Your Universe”.

Now that the dust has settled from SDCC, I picked up my copy and gave it a quick read.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is not only a memoir of sorts, but also a workbook so you can get to work on your own story.

At the end of each section, there is a section for you to work on your own thoughts, ideas, dreams, whatever.  There are exercises such as make an action plan to reach your goals and jot down those little ideas that pop into your head that can turn into big ideas and dreams for your future.  Eckstein encourages you to write in the book and make it your own kind of dream journal.

The illustrations by Ashley Taylor are really beautiful as well.  I would love to have several of these in a frameable format!

That is one thing that I’ve always liked about Eckstein.  She likes to not only share her journey, but guide you on a journey of your own.  The fashion show being a prime example.  The winners of that show get to design a line not only for Her Universe, but the line is sold in Hot Topic and Torrid stores worldwide!  Yes, it helps her company for sure, but makes new fashion stars in their own right.

The book inspired me to put pen to paper and write down my ideas so that I can expand on them later on.  I now have a ton of projects that I’d like to tackle!  I have this on my desk now for inspiration, actually.

The book is a very quick read, which I really liked.  I also liked the “all ages” aspect of it.  This is a great book to give to a child to encourage them to dream and make things happen.  The book takes a very relaxed approach to new ideas and projects you’d like to accomplish.  Let them flow.  Break ideas down into milestones.  Big ideas are a journey.  By teaching our kids to break down things into manageable goals, big ideas seem less daunting and achievable.

Best Advice EVER!

Brite Organix “Make Me Pastel Purple” Shampoo

As you all know, I love being a platinum blonde!  Since discovering the platinum assymetrical pixie cut, I’m hooked for life.  Finding your ‘do is kind of a big deal.  We all use our hair, or lack thereof, to enhance our look.  Hair is an important accessory, so like make-up, it is a lot of fun to play with it and try new things.  Also like make-up, your look is temporary because hair magically grows back and colors fade over time.  So, if you don’t like how something looks, change it!

To cut the brassiness of my bleach-blondeness, I use a purple-hued shampoo recommended by my stylist.  If I used it enough, I would get a slight pastel purple hue to my hair, which I liked, but I also like going back to blonde as well.

Recently the kiddo and I went to Ulta to get some supplies, like ya do, and saw this shampoo and conditioner by Brite Organix…

I was intrigued.  Since it does not require a commitment, I thought, “Why the heck not?” So, I gave it a go.  Here are some pics, not filtered, after one wash…

As you can see, it really gave it a nice silvery pastel purple hue.  I really like it!  Also, it will fade with each wash of my regular cleansing conditioner by WEN, so no committment.  Just a fun thing.  Also cuts the brassiness right out, so win-win.

I did a little research on Brite Organix.  Their products are vegan, which is great.  They also have a variety of different products, hair colors, shampoos, etc.  Check out their website here.  They are an Australian company, but if you want to check out their products in person, just visit your local Ulta store.

Happy shopping!

SDCC Recap: Her Universe Fashion Show

Our last SDCC recap is the Her Universe Fashion Show, which took place at the Regency Grand Hyatt on Thursday evening.  This year’s show marked the fifth anniversary of the show.  We’ve attended every year.  This year brought some wonderful designs, as always, inspired by all kinds of fandoms from Godzilla:

To Space Mountain:

Ashley’s dress was also an incredible creation inspired by “The Nightmare Before Christmas” using over 500 Funko Pops!  The dress weighed in at 40 pounds, almost double that of her Lego dress from two years ago.

There was an incredible surprise in the middle of the show, the 13th Doctor, Jodie Whittaker herself, walked the runway in her new costume.  Whittaker stated on the runway that she had input in the design which needed, “To be comfortable, of course.” and also, “Anyone can cosplay this.  You aren’t cosplaying a woman.  You aren’t cosplaying a man.  You are cosplaying The Doctor.”  Her Universe released their own 13th Doctor coat at SDCC, so we can all cosplay The Doctor.

Her Universe also released a special Clone Wars collection to celebrate the return of “Clone Wars” with 12 more episodes!

It was an incredible show, and as always, the designs did not disappoint.

Until next time…
