Holiday Break

As we enter the holiday break, I wanted to say thank you all for your continued support these last nine years!
This year presented me with a lot of challenges, but I got a dream job a few months ago, so things in life have improved a lot! I know I’ve posted OOTDs almost exclusively this year so I could concentrate on getting settled into that aforementioned dream job, but next year, I’ll be bringing some more variety of content.
Speaking of next year, please join me celebrating the tenth year of this site! 10 years?! I’m super touched and moved by your continued support, and I thank you with all my heart!
I began this blog to encourage and inspire you to enjoy your style, whether it be nerdy, gothy or sparkly; regardless of size, age or budget restrictions.
I will continue to do so with OOTDs with shopping links, articles with tips and tricks, and inspiration to wear the dress, buy the piece you’ve always wanted to try, take that selfie and express your personality through style.
Because style turns you into a walking, talking work of art and self-expression, and you live your life in it.
So, please join me for 10 more years of fun!
I love all of you, and thank you again.

Twilly Scarves for Handbags Tutorial
Gator Loki Bound
OK, this one isn’t for me, it is for my new gator that I am taking to Disneyland with me.

Backpack (with gator included) from Amazon.

I used gold craft foam, tacky glue and paperclips to make the horned helmet. All from Amazon.

I attached the helmet to his head with elastic.

And there you go! This was a super easy craft that I put together in a couple of days (including glue drying time). Now both of us are ready for Disneyland!

How to Style a Spirit Jersey
Now, THIS is a challenge! I swore to all that was holy that I would never ever get a spirit jersey. They are big, boxy, but tapered enough at the bottom that they don’t hang right on you. They are just plain, well, not a good look. My opinion, of course.
But then, Disney did this to me…

Needless to say, I bought a spirit jersey. Get your own here. Once I received it, I had to take scissors to it first to remove the high neck. T-shirt surgery tutorial here. Make sure you don’t cut the back too low to keep the awesome lettering on the back. Then I cropped it off so I could wear it with high-waisted leggings or skirts.

Because the top is so voluminous, you need to balance out the bottom of the outfit with something close to the body. Balance is key.

I paired my spirit jersey with my new Big 3 pin and Bucky Barnes dogtags. I wore a stretch pencil skirt from Forever 21 with it and some silver clunky sneakers from Fila. Click on links to buy.

Happy shopping!

Outfit of the Day: Marvel Rockabilly Look
For our latest outfit of the day, I had a great t-shirt that I got at Target, but wanted to do something fun and new with it.

You guys have probably noticed that Target has some really amazing tees, but they are only available in bigger sizes in the Men’s Department. So, tee surgery is needed to make them look good on a woman’s body.

I decided to do the usual tee surgery of removing the neck from the tee. After that, I thought about pairing it with some items to create a rockabilly look with it.

I took a pencil skirt from Forever 21, retro stretch belt from Amazon and a bandana headband from Five Below. That with my trusty Converse slip ons. Lipstick in “Darcy” from our store.

Happy Shopping!

Shoes for Pin-Up/Dapper Styles
When you are prepping a new dapper look for a convention or just trying to accessorize a new dress, one key item you need to think about are shoes to complete your look.

Here are a few styles that will work with vintage-inspired fashions. All the choices are reasonably priced with shopping links below as well as photo examples.
The Ballet Flat
This style is perfect for not only dresses, but pedal-pushers or capri pants as well. I’ve never been a big fan, because they have a tendency to give me a blister on my heels. However, I just found this flat from Skechers that stays put. The shoes also have more cushioning than the usual ballet flat. Buy your Skechers ballet flat here.
The Oxford
This shoe has a few different types as far as heel styles. There are flat, block heeled and traditional heeled options. I really love this block heeled version I got from Amazon. They have padding on the inside and the block heel gives me lots of support. Buy your Block-heeled Oxford here.
Classic Converse Chuck Taylors
This shoe is not only great for 50’s looks, but for 80’s, goth, punk or rock looks as well. It is the ultimate casual shoe. Now, while it is not padded on the inside, you can get insoles that provide support if you need it. Chucks come in every color imaginable, and a high-top version as well. Buy your classic Chucks here.
Saddle Shoes
Besides the Chuck Taylors, the other shoe that leaps to mind when someone is thinking about vintage 50s fashions is the saddle shoe. Named because the contrasting stripe resembles a saddle on the shoe. You can get saddle shoes in a variety of colors and even high heel versions, but the classic black and white flat-heeled version is the best way to go. Get your saddle shoes here.

Saddle shoes aren’t the best for long days on your feet, so I created a comfy version from a white sneaker. To create your own, will only take a few minutes of your time. Click here for the how-to instructions.

If you have any go-to styles for your dapper looks, please leave us a comment below. We love to hear from you!
Until next time…
Love, Kim and Benji
